MathType is an equation editor created by DesignScience that allows you to produce high-quality math typesetting. It is able to integrate into Microsoft Office 2016 or earlier, as well as Google Docs.

Platform

MathType runs on Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. MacOS Catalina (10.15) does not currently support MathType, but it is supported on El Capitan (10.11) through Mojave (10.14).

Who Can Use the Software

MathType is available to all OSU engineering students.

Access to Software

The latest version of MathType can be downloaded below (your ONID credentials are required). The downloads include a file with licensing information.

The current license will let you use MathType until July 6, 2021.

Installation Guide

  1. Download the MathType zip package for your respective operating system from one of the links above.
  2. Extract the zip file and enter the extracted folder.
  3. Run the MathType installer, and proceed through the setup. The installation should take less than 5 minutes.
  4. After the installation, open MathType (from either the Start menu in Windows, or Spotlight in MacOS).
  5. Once MathType is open, click "Help" and then "Unlock/Register MathType..." to open the license menu.
  6. Open the README.txt file located in the MathType folder (where you ran the installer from) and copy the license information into the registration window.
  7. Click "Save" once all of the licensing info is copied in. The software should be licensed, and you're good to go.
