There are currently two methods we recommend to connect to your campus COE PC from a remote (off-campus) location.

  1. The preferred method is to use the engineering “Gateway”. It is the most secure method and should give the best performance, but it requires a mobile device that is pre-registered with DUO.
  2. The second is to use the campus VPN which doesn’t currently perform as well as the Gateway method.

Instructions:

  1. If you haven’t already, install an application to access Remote Desktop computers, such as Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 from Microsoft. The following instructions will be based on this application, but the general ideas should apply to all others
  2. For these instructions to work you must have a mobile device configured for push authentication for Duo, a hardware token will not work for this. If you do not have a mobile device configured on your Duo account yet, you can do so here.
  3. Open Preferences
  4. On the “User Accounts” page, add an account for your ONID credentials
    1. The username should be in the form of:  MyONIDusername@oregonstate.edu
    2. Password should be your ONID password
    3. If you wish, give it a friendly name like “ONID”
  1. Configure a Gateway to use to connect through
    1. Enter gateway.engineering.oregonstate.edu for the Gateway name
    2. Give it a friendly name if you want, for example “CoE RDP Gateway
    3. Select the account you created in step 4
  1. Close the preferences
  2. Add a new connection for your workstation by clicking the “+” button
    1. For PC name enter the name of your computer, such as “myworkcomp”. There should be a label on your computer with this information, if you are unsure ask IT support to help you determine this.
      1. Only the computer name should be required, however the full address (e.g. “myworkcomp.engineering.oregonstate.edu”) is preferred
    2. Change the user to the “ONID” user you created earlier
    3. If desired give it a Friendly name, such as “Work Computer
    4. Select the gateway you created in step 5 from the dropdown now
  1. Once the computer is created, double click on the entry to start the connection
  2. You will now get a push for authentication on your mobile device, while your computer will show this message:
  1. Once you authorize the connection on your mobile device you should now be connected to your computer! If you run into any issues please contact IT support at support@engr.oregonstate.edu.
