Each student who is currently enrolled in a class for the College of Engineering is allotted a quota of 500 black and white pages per academic term.

This quota is only for College of Engineering printers and does not apply to other areas of campus. If your printing goes over 500 pages over the course of a given term, your OSU student account will be charged $0.10 per page. The sum of your printing will be charged at the end of each term.

You can check the status of your print quota on the engineering PaperCut website:  https://print.engineering.oregonstate.edu

A page is defined as a printed side of paper. If you print a one page document, it counts as one page. If you print a two page document in duplex, it prints two sides of a sheet of paper, so it counts as two pages.

Requesting Refunds

If a print job fails to print, or the printer malfunctions, the job may still be charged against your quota. It's a very easy process to request a refund of those pages. Visit the following site:

https://print.engineering.oregonstate.edu

  1. Login using your ONID username and password
  2. Click "Recent Print Jobs" in the menu
  3. Find the job you want a refund on. Click the "Request Refund" link on the right

Refund

  1. Specify the number of pages as well as a reason for the refund and click Send
  2. You will receive an email confirmation when the process is completed.
Printing from Wireless Devices

WebPrint is a simple way to print PDF and Microsoft Office documents without having to install printer drivers.

Almost any document can be converted to a PDF using Microsoft's and macOS's built in PDF printers. They are embedded in most modern operating systems.

  1. Login to our PaperCut server https://print.engineering.oregonstate.edu using your ONID username and password
  2. On the left hand side bar, navigate to "Web Print" and click "Submit a Job"
  3. Select the printer you wish the print from and number of copies you wish to print
  4. Upload the document (PDF, picture file, Word doc, Excel or PowerPoint) and then send the print off with the "Upload & Complete" button

Note: If you want to configure advanced printing functionality such as duplex printing you will need to install the printer in a full desktop environment. This can still be accomplished through the browser using the Desktops we provide through Citrix.

If you have any questions or need help, please submit a ticket or email us at coe.support@oregonstate.edu.

Requirements:

  1. Apple iOS 5 or above device
  2. Connection to OSU wireless network

Setup:

1. Go to settings and select "Wi-Fi" then tap on the blue "i" to the right of the OSU network you are using (such as OSU_Secure or OSU_Access). Add "ios.engr.oregonstate.edu" to the search domains (This is necessary to find printers on your iOS device).

ios domain

2. Open Safari and visit https://print.engineering.oregonstate.edu/ios/install. This should bring up an 'install profile' dialogue. Follow prompts to install the app, and a printing app should show up on your screen as an icon.

install profile papercut app

Printing:

Once you have downloaded the printing app, which uses PaperCut, you should be able to select the printing icon on your screen and authenticate your device using your ONID username and password. If you select 'remember me' while authenticating, PaperCut should remember your iOS device and automatically authenticate it next time you attempt to connect to an engineering printer. You can also authenticate after printing, but please note that any unauthenticated devices show up as a guest account to the printers and are unable to print until they are authenticated.

To print, select the print option while on a document, webpage, or other screen which you would wish to print. Select a printer from the list of available engineering printers, select the number of copies you wish to print, and then confirm the job by clicking the 'print' button. All print jobs will be printed in duplex and you can only print the entire document, so bear this in mind when printing from a mobile device. The ipad and iphone have slightly different printing interfaces, as seen below.

Once a job has been sent to the printer, you can check on its status by selecting the printing app icon. This page also displays the number of pages remaining on your account.

Removing the App:

Should you decide you do not want this app on your iOS system, here is the suggested way to remove the app:

1. Delete the printing app. Hold your finger down on the app until the x button appears to delete it.

2. Delete the printing profile. Go to settings -> general apps -> profile -> printing -> remove. You need to remove the app FIRST, then delete the profile.

Printing from Labs and Wired Workstations

Overview

Engineering uses 'print release stations' in the computer labs. When you send a job to a printer, if from your laptop, a Citrix session, or in the computer lab itself, the job is held until you release the job.
You can release print jobs with your ID or using a browser (see below)

If you are looking to print from your laptop see the "Webprint" section on this page

The Print Queue

The name of the printer is COEPrint on the server winprn.
It is added automatically when logged into computer labs and Citrix sessions.
See below for directions on printing to the queue from wireless devices.

How to release a print job

After printing to COEPrint, a print job is held until you release it to one of the print release stations listed in the print release section of this page.
You can do this on of three ways:

Via the Web:

https://print.engineering.oregonstate.edu

At the Printer:

Each printer is equipped with a touch screen and a card swipe.

  1. Login by using either your OSU ID card or providing your OSU ID number.
  2. Click "Release print jobs"
  3. Select the job you want to print

Using the desktop app (in computer labs and Xen Desktop)

  1. In the upper right hand corner of your computer desktop is an app that displays your balance.
  2. Click on "Details" and login to PaperCut.
  3. Under "Jobs Pending Release" find your job and release to the printer of your choice.

Mobile Release

You can also use your smart phone to release a job.
To set it up, first connect to either eduroam or OSU_Secure WiFi.
Using the web browser on your smartphone, visit

https://print.engineering.oregonstate.edu/mr

  1. Login using your ONID username and password
  2. Let it add an icon to your start screen
  3. Select the printer you want to release to in upper right. The printers will be clearly marked with their name. Important: You must choose the correct print server (winprn, linprn) that you printed from. If you printed from Windows or Mac, choose winprn\<printername>. From linux, choose linprn\<printername>
  4. You should see your document available for release. Click release.
