Students and faculty can use MATLAB in two different ways.

1. Use our Citrix environment to run MATLAB. This is quick and easy and requires no local software. It is recommended for the casual user.

2. OSU has arranged for a site-license for MATLAB that allows students and faculty to install on up to 4 devices. A network connection is not required (no central license server). Click here for instructions.

Siemens Digital Industries Software NX (Download requires ONID Authentication)
Siemens NX software is a flexible and powerful integrated solution that helps you deliver better products faster and more efficiently. NX delivers the next generation of design, simulation, and manufacturing solutions that enable companies to realize the value of the digital twin.

This is for Windows computers only.

1. Download "NX Installer.zip"
2. Extract "NX Installer.zip" (do not run installer without extracting).
3. Run "COE SiemensNX Installer.exe" from the folder you extracted to.

The program will open a terminal window and install NX for you. Please do not close the terminal window that opens, it will auto-close when install is finished. The installation could take ~20min.

To use NX, you must be connected to OSU's VPN.

OSU College of Engineering Support for Solidworks will end in June of 2024. Siemens NX is the replacement.

Note that if you are performing research, you'll need a special research license.

The College of Engineering is a part of the VMware Academic Software Licensing Program. Licenses/keys are good for one year.

For access to the program please request access by emailing:  coe.support@oregonstate.edu
If you need to renew your license you must send another email to IT support (email above) requesting renewal.
Once you are added to the VMWare Academic Program you will receive an invite email to make you account and redeem the software.

This program provides students to several VMware products for free, including:

  • VMware Fusion
  • VMware Workstation for Windows
  • VMware Workstation for Linux
  • VMware vSphere Advanced

Note:  If you have an Apple silicon (ARM architecture) based Mac you may need ARM specific versions of OSes. If you are just looking to run software such as Visual Studio, it is highly recommended that you use Citrix instead of setting up VMs. Windows for ARM is not available via Azure Dev Tools, only through the Microsoft Insider Preview Program.

As a free and open source alternative to VMware, you can download VirtualBox from Oracle:
